ATI Catalyst 9.7 released.

Yesterday AMD/ATI released there monthly driver software with the announcement of windows 7 RTM.  Being the first WHQL dirver for windows 7 RTM it had many inprovments.  The following is from the release notes.  You can get the drivers here.

ATI Catalyst™ 9.7 introduces support for the ATI Video converter under Windows 7 32-bit
and Windows 7 64-bit
Using ATI Stream technology, owners of ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series and ATI Radeon™
HD 4600 Series of graphics cards can take advantage of this video conversion tool (found in
ATI Catalyst™ Control Center Basic View) to achieve substantial performance improvements
when transcoding video files.

Catalyst™ 9.7 brings performance benefits in several cases where framerates are CPU-
limited. Some measured examples are:

Crysis – performance at very high quality preset increases by up to 8% on HD4800 series products
Lost Planet Colonies – performance increases by 7-11% when 8x Anti-Aliasing  is used on
the HD4800 series products.





Windows 7 RTM

Yesterday Microsoft announced the windows 7 had been released to manufacture.  While this marks the end of the beta phase of development, Microsoft will continue to make improvements and revisions to the OS until its release on Oct. 22 of this year.    For those who followed the leaked builds(myself included) the build string that was made RTM is 7600.16385.090713-1255.  Here is a link to the windows 7 team blog about the announcement.

Apple introduces new MacBook Pro

A refresh of Apple’s long-in-the-tooth MacBook Pro line was pretty much the only sure thing slated for today’s event, and Apple certainly delivered. As for looks, you probably know the score by now: chiclet keyboard, Air-inspired aluminum stylings, and a glossy screen that’s flush with a new iMac-like black bezel.
